The party continues tonight as our Title Sponsor Jagoe Homes presents the Andy Brasher Band! At fourteen years old Andy started his first band and performed covers at parties, festivals and bars in Owensboro, Bowling Green and surrounding counties. Soon, he built a large and loyal local following that gave him the courage to try his talents of singing, playing and writing in Nashville, TN. Tonight he sets Friday After 5 to music! Country hits and rock classics roll tonight on the patio stage. The Kroger Water Balloon Toss and our fun kids’ Hula Hoop contest take place during the band’s only break at 7:45pm. Tonight’s Class PreUnions: Apollo Class of 1996, Henderson County Class of 1991, Owensboro Catholic Class of 1966 and South Spencer High Class of 2006. We have four other venues of entertainment tonight! Gospel on the River, Atmos Courtyard, Don Moore Party at the Pier, Cromwell Radio New Sound stage and Kroger Street Fair. Fun. Friends. Free. Friday After 5 is Where the Weekend Begins. Andy Brasher Band: 6:30pm-10:00pm
Tonight we welcome Shawn Brashear to the Atmos Energy Courtyard. Shawn Brashear is an original music recording artist from Owensboro. His sound comes from influences including Radiohead, Dave Matthews Band, The Beatles, and Pink Floyd. His goal as a writer and performer is to constantly evolve creatively. Tonight he sets the summer night to great music. Twenty years ago Atmos Energy gifted the Courtyard to the RiverPark Center. Just several years ago Atmos again upped their game by upgrading the Courtyard with two flaming gas torches, overhead decorative lighting and all new landscaping. They also sponsor the entire season of acoustic artists tonight through September 4th at Friday After 5. Fun. Friends. Free. Thanks to our season-long sponsor, Atmos Energy. 7:00pm-10:00pm
Tonight “The Giving Tree Band” and “Old Salt Union” combine to get the party started. Formed in 2004 by enigmatic brothers E and Todd Fink, The Austin Chronicle explains the band’s sound as bringing to mind “Seventies American music with The Band and the Dead as obvious touchstones, plus the kind of country/almost-bluegrass of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils and the New Riders of the Purple Sage.” In 2010, Nashville Metromix called The Giving Tree Band “the American answer to Mumford And Sons.” In 2012, Relix Magazine wrote “the folksy bliss is the sound of a group playing as one” and featured the band as one of their monthly artists “On The Verge.” They’ve been the monthly “Player Spotlight” in Acoustic Guitar Magazine. Plus, “Old Salt Union” plays the party pier! Old Salt Union is known for playing music by their own set of rules. While the men who make up the group are not complete rebels, they are certainly focused on exposing people to a purer, more exciting, and more original form of music. Drawing influence from Bill Monroe, Sam Bush and Del McCoury, to jazz great Bill Evans and Composer Danny Elfman, it’s obvious the group has a unique and broad genetic make-up. What makes Old Salt Union special is their ability to further explore the jazz and blues roots of bluegrass in a mature and refreshing manner. With in-depth musical compositions, a catchy hook, and a high- energy metaphorical punch to the gut, they are truly front-runners in the new generation of string music. The “Don Moore Party Pier” is our newest venue. It doesn’t just “overlook” the Ohio, it goes out OVER the Ohio River! It’s a great venue and a guaranteed party every Friday all summer long! What kind of venue is it? It’s Hot Don! 7:30pm – 11:00pm.
