Watt a night! Those electric heroes from Kenergy, the people who keep the lights on provide the energy for tonight’s fun at Friday After 5! Familiar Faces formed in the summer of 1990 by the famous entertainer, Jimmy Church from Nashville, TN. Jimmy Church combined the idea of a dance/party live band that could play the best of the 60’s, 70’s and Top 40, with twirling horns, tight lead and background vocals and a driving rhythm section. Knowing that he needed someone to lead this high-energy band, he recruited his son, Tim Gaines-Church, who became the lead vocalist and keyboard player for the Familiar Faces band. Since then, Familiar Faces has become one of the busiest live bands in the Southeast, playing everywhere, including their favorite venue: Friday After 5! Join the party tonight on the Jagoe Homes patio stage thanks to Kenergy, the powerhouse team that is sponsoring tonight’s free fun! 6:30pm-10:00pm. Tonight’s Class PreUnions: Daviess County Class of 1976, Hancock County Class of 1996, Apollo Class of 1976, McLean County Class of 2006 and Owensboro Catholic Class of 1966. Fun Ahead!
Tonight two great musicians team up to set the Atmos Courtyard to music. For the past seven years Elliott Sublett and Drew Aud have collaborated on their musical careers. Between playing live shows, working in the studio, and writing music, their fellow musicianship turned into a brotherhood on and off the stage. Sharing the same interests in country , blues , and rock & roll music , they’ve thrown together a rock solid list of cover songs and their own original material that fans come to back watch again. From opening up for national acts to playing shows in the small town dives , their passion for what they do clearly shows when they join the stage together. Although it’s not very often, it’s a site to see these two perform together and one heck of a show! Elliott Sublett and Drew Aud are stars on their own but we’ve teamed them up together to provide an evening of acoustic music. It’s the perfect setting, too. Atmos Energy gifted the “courtyard” to the RiverPark Center more than 20 years ago and this season they once again sponsor all of the bands in this special venue. It’s out-of-the-way and romantic with special lights overhead with the summer stars above as the perfect backdrop. Thank you Atmos Energy for all you do for our community year round and especially for setting our summer nights to music each week at Friday After 5. 7pm-10pm
Everyone loves to hear a band that just “gets down”. Northwest Georgia-based band Jerry on the Moon has fused the influence of artists like The Band, Stevie Wonder, and the Talking Heads with their own unique style of music, to create a contemporary sound that is indeed, timeless. Weaving personal stories into their songwriting, JOTM brings audiences to the banks of Rome’s three rivers with lyrics crafted from their personal journals, giving listeners a peek into the window of who they really are. This raw and exposed honesty couples perfectly with catchy hooks, screaming guitar riffs, and four musicians who are literally singing their hearts out. Jedd Lovel (drums), Steven Powers (bass), Adam Klingensmith (guitar), and Rob Reed (Keys) are the nucleus of the group. All four gentlemen come together and light up a stage with their enthusiasm for music and performance. The party is on us! Don Moore Automotive sponsors the “Party on the Pier” all summer long! Located right behind the beautiful Owensboro Convention Center, you won’t be dancing near the river….you’ll be partying OVER the river! The summer night is the perfect backdrop with free cornhole games, a tiki bar and world-famous bourbon bar right on site! Join the fun tonight with Jerry on the Moon at Friday After 5′s newest venue! 8pm-11:30pm.
Kroger invites everyone to MAV UP at the Street Fair. Owensboro’s tourney-winning stars of the Kentucky Mavericks will all be on hand to shoot some baskets and the breeze with all of our guests. Meet the MAVs and join them in some fun, on-site games! The Mav’s, like Kroger, are corporate sponsors of Friday After 5. You’ll find a “mile of music” with beautiful cascading waterfalls, a signature fountain and the award-winning Lazy Days Playgound at Smothers Park. It’s a full handicap-accessible park with tress that you can climb FROM THE INSIDE! Walk rope bridges from tree to tree almost two stories off the ground. At about 8pm we host kids hula-hoop contest and a water balloon contest for the grown up. Be sure to have your 12 or under kid register to win one of two kid’s bikes Walmart is giving away tonight. Just register. They pull out two names each week and the kids get to go to Walmart and pick out a bike! Also, we showcase the Shelton Memorial honoring all POWs on Veteran’s Boulevard. Be sure to stop for a moment and thank all of our vets. Special night beginning at 5:30.
Since it’s our 20th anniversary, we’re celebrating by providing a special stage for our “newest, up and coming” talent. Tonight we feature “Lightstruck”. We’ll need more great bands and entertainers in the future, so along with our partners at Cromwell Radio, we’ve invited the best future stars to the stage each Friday. It’s one of five musical venues at Friday After 5. If you’ve never been, treat yourself this Friday. You have the best seat in the house as the beautiful overlook with ever-changing colors floats above and the backdrop is the beautiful Ohio River. 7pm-9pm.
