Tonight Atmos Energy presents Jill and Kate, a harmony-driven duo bringing people together through songs and stories. Best known as former background singers for Kelly Clarkson, Jill and Kate have also distinguished themselves as a singer/songwriter duo of real craft and charm. Driven by their own sensitive, well-rendered tunes and their sterling vocal harmonies, this duo will set the summer night to music. Jill and Kate, from Nashville, come to Friday After 5 as part of their summer tour. Don’t miss this entertainingly funny and talented duo as they make their first appearance at our summer-long party. The Atmos Energy Courtyard is in a romantic and intimate setting so bring a close friend. Atmos Energy recently renovated the Courtyard and it’s a great venue with ambiance and tucked away in a romantic setting set to music each week. No cover. No kidding. Just like Friday After 5, Andy’s performance is free thanks to our sponsor for the entire season, Atmos Energy. 7:00pm-10:00pm
Hey Mon….the party is on! For nearly a decade, electronic reggae-dub innovators Jon Wayne and The Pain have been crafting a unique sound, one that features a mesmerizing blend of modern age electronic beats fused with upbeat traditional roots reggae and a fresh layer of grooving funk to keep the soul moving in all the right ways. The Twin Cities-based ensemble burst onto the festival scene in 2007 following their debut self-titled album, and has since built a highly devoted following through multi-dimensional jamming, extensive touring and influential songwriting. Inscrutable and unpredictable, Jon Wayne and The Pain’s cutting edge style has taken them across the nation to some of the country’s biggest music festivals including Electric Forest, Summer Camp, Cali Roots and Wakarusa. Their transcendent live performances and fluid chemistry has propelled them to forefront of reggae music, and with an ever-changing musical paradigm it is evident that this Midwestern quartet is an absolute force to be reckoned with. Tonight, they reggae rock the Don Moore Party Pier, the newest addition to the Smothers Park renovation! It’s the giant stage that reaches out over the mighty Ohio River. It’s a perfect venue for enjoying live entertainment with a breathtaking backdrop. The stage is near the new waterfall feature and the Signature Fountain, designed by the same people who created the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas. Don Moore Automotive team sponsors the entire season. Great entertainment and just like Friday After 5, it’s free! 8:00pm-11:30pm
We’re celebrating our 20th anniversary by giving new talent their chance to perform at Friday After 5 on the beautiful Overlook Stage. Tonight we feature “Deuces Wild”. Our friends at Cromwell Radio have helped us to assemble a cast of great new, up and coming performers of all ages to star each Friday all season long on the Cromwell Overlook Stage at the foot of Frederica Street on the riverfront. The unique stage is set with new talent and against a beautiful backdrop of the Ohio River. Thank you Cromwell Radio for sponsoring all of our future stars each Friday during our season. Showtime: 7pm.
Tonight, we’re welcoming all of the baby boomers and their friends! It’s senior night! Friends. Food. Fun. If you can get the grandkids to ever leave the free “spray park” and resort quality Smothers Park Playground, you’ll find the rest of the park filled with music, friends and a breathtaking view of the mighty Ohio River. Be sure to have your 12 or under kid register to win one of two kid’s bikes Walmart is giving away tonight. Just register. They pull out two names each week and the kids get to go to Walmart and pick out a bike! Plus, we’re expecting special “Storybook Characters” tonight courtesy of TDs Tuff Decisions Costumes and the DC Public Library. We let the kids shine with Welborn’s kids’ Hula-Hoop contest during the band’s only break at 7:45 in front of the patio stage. Then, don’t miss the Kroger Water Balloon toss. It’s wet. Four contestants lose. The crowd wins! It begins at 7:50 and will end about five balloon bursts later. Then we’ll all join in our “Toast to the Sunset” as it dips into the Ohio, just in time to bring the night to life. Thanks to our season-long street fair sponsor, Kroger!
Owensboro is known for its many festivals. We celebrate apples, BBQ, bluegrass, Daylilies, bourbon and airplanes. But Friday After 5 celebrates Friday. It’s our favorite day and for sixteen Fridays in a row we throw a party each summer. It’s so big; it’s so fun; it’s so family friendly (plus the fact it’s free) helped earn us the honor of being named “Platinum Award Winning Community Event/Attraction”. See what all the excitement is all about. We’ll be waiting for you!
