Dancing burns about 340 calories and hour! That’s why Owensboro Health brings Motown downtown with “Black Widow Band”, one of the south’s top Show and Dance bands for 30 years. The eight-member “Black Widow” stage show is a non-stop visual presentation enhanced with driving beats and the songs you love to hear and dance to time after time. From the sounds of the Big Chill/Motown to the retro seventies, eighties and nineties, Black Widow Band will set Friday After 5 to music. We’ll give you a breather at 7:45pm for Welborn’s Hula Hoop contest for the kids and Kroger’s Water Balloon toss. Join us as we “Toast the Sunset” and get back to the business end of the dance floor until 10pm tonight. Owensboro Health, headquartered here in Owensboro features an award-winning facility and team that keeps the region healthy. They figure you could burn up 1,000 calories tonight thanks to Black Widow Band beginning at 6:30pm on the Jagoe Homes Patio Stage. Plus, who knows; someone may “pop the question” tonight. It’s happened before. New summer memories await. Tonight’s “Class PreUnions” include Owensboro High Class of 1979, McLean County Class of 1986, Ohio County High Classes of 1996 and 2006. Black Widow presented by Owensboro Health! 6:30pm-10:00pm
Jed’s Acoustics performs tonight in the romantic and intimate courtyard! Jed Guillaume is a seasoned, multi-talented musician from Leopold, IN. He’s been singing and performing for audiences for more than forty years. You may recognize him as the lead singer in both “Sweetwater” and “No Plan B” bands. Tonight, he sets the romantic summer night to music all by himself in a special acoustic setting under the summer moon. He takes requests, too. More than 20 years ago Atmos Energy gifted the RPC Courtyard to the community. Twenty years later, they came back, redecorated the Courtyard, added overhead party lights and new landscaping. Atmos Energy is sponsoring the entire season of great artists in the courtyard during Friday After 5. Tonight’s show begins at 7pm and continues until 10pm tonight. Like everything at Friday After 5, it’s free!
Let’s get the party started! INSULATED includes four Kentucky boys; Coty Burton, Drew Aud, D.J. Brown, and the newest member Nick Cheek. They have been playing gigs in the Kentucky/Indiana area since 2007. With styles and influences ranging from country and blues to classic rock, the band is capable of playing to diverse crowds and fulfilling many requests! INSULATED has also been working on original material and recorded a few of them in Gallatin, TN at the studios of former Dixiana member, Randall Griffith. Randall also helped produce the songs. The band has recently played a few higher profile shows such as The Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville, playing with Donny Fallgatter (from CMT’s Sweet Home Alabama and Nashville band KingBilly) and the popular duo Brasher/Bogue. INSULATED was also on the lineup for the “January Beach Jam” which included Southern Grounds recording artist, Sonia Leigh. The guys hope to further their success by playing plenty of shows and bringing audiences great live music! They rocked Friday After 5 in years past and make their first appearance on our new “Party Pier” stage! It doesn’t just “look out over the river”; it actually “GOES OUT over the river”. Perfect place for a party set to music! Plus it’s just steps from our world-famous $40m fun park! One of the many amenities of Smothers Park located just down the river walkway is the giant overlook stage at the foot of Frederica. It’s a perfect venue for pictures and romance. The stage area overlooks both the Ohio River, the new waterfall feature and the Signature Fountain, designed by the same people who created the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas. Don Moore Automotive team sponsors the “Party at the Pier” bands all season. Great entertainment and just like Friday After 5, it’s fun and free. 8:00pm-11:30pm
It’s a special night on the Cromwell New Sounds Overlook! We’re featuring all of the finalist from this spring’s “Owensboro’s Got Talent” show. Theatre Workshop brought all of the brightest new talent to the TWO stage in March and tonight we’re giving all of the finalists their own stage at Friday After 5! Your friends at Cromwell Radio are bringing up and coming talent to the Overlook all season long. You’ll find the most promising artists and musicians every Friday on the beautiful Overlook stage this season. Many of the best bands got their start at Friday After 5 over the past 20 years so we’re providing a special venue for rising stars in the region. Tune into 100.5 WVJS for live remotes from the venue each Friday! Live entertainment begins on the beautiful downtown “Overlook Stage” at the foot of Frederica at 7pm each Friday.
Friends. Food. Fun. Free. Tonight’s Street Fair theme is “Healthy Kick Off to Summer”! Our Daviess County Extension Office will have fun and healthy activities for the kids and you, too! First 200 kids get a summer “goody bag” plus we’ll host contests, parachute games and the kids can register for drawings for free summer fun! We celebrate too by giving our non-profit organizations free booths at the Kroger Street Fair. Tonight’s special “Storybook Characters” are Shrek and Fiona! Each Friday the DC Public Library invites a special storybook character to the Friday Fun, courtesy of TDs Tuff Decisions Costumes! Bring your camera phone! Be sure to have your 12 or under kid register to win one of two kid’s bikes Walmart is giving away tonight. Just register. They pull out two names each week and the kids get to go to Walmart and pick out a bike! It all takes place around the award-winning Smothers Park, named the #1 Park in the World just last year! It’s 100% handicap accessible and includes trees that kids can climb FROM THE INSIDE! Then they can “slide” their way back down the three stories on our fun and safe slide rides! If you can get your kids out of the part, you can enter them in tonight’s Hula-Hoop contest and then it’s the grown-ups turn competing in the Kroger Water Balloon toss. We’ll all “Toast the Sunset” at dusk. Working up an appetite? There are great restaurants and pubs downtown! But before you can get the kids to eat, you’ll have to coax them out of the resort quality “Lazy Dayz” playground in Smothers Park, part of the Friday After 5’s fun all season long. The kids can splash their way through the spray park then swing from our magical trees and walk above all of the fun in the park. Yes, it is fun. It’s Friday After 5. It’s all free thanks to our friends at Kroger!
