Tonight, Allen Nelson, a Tennessee native travels to the ‘Boro to set the intimate Atmos Energy Courtyard to music. Allen is the oldest of five children and lost his mother when he was only twelve years old. He’s channeled his musical energy into tonight’s performance. Allen provides the music. We’ll provide the comfortable seating and “Atmos”phere in the courtyard! More than twenty years ago, Atmos Energy donated the funds necessary to build the “Atmos Energy Courtyard” the beautiful outside venue at the RiverPark Center. This year they are going even further by sponsoring all of the entertainment all season long in the Atmos Energy Courtyard. Out of Ashville, NC, “The Fritz” is a five piece rock band that likes to get funky! Carefully weaving the band’s personality into each song, the band sets tonight to music and promises to fire up the Party Pier crowd. After four years of traveling the Southeast, steadily building a reputation as an energetic live act, Asheville-based quintet The Fritz played exceptionally strong sets at The Catskill Chill and The Bear Creek Music Festival in the Fall of 2014, and showed thousands of new fans what throngs of Southeastern music lovers have known for years: The Fritz likes to get funky. The Fritz are masters of improvisation, carefully weaving the band’s personality and the crowd into each performance. “The Fritz” creates an energetic dance party at every appearance. Things have only been getting busier for “The Fritz”, and the future is even more exciting. Tonight’s band is staying over courtesy of our newest downtown hotel, Holiday Inn Riverfront, home of “Another Broken Egg”. We’re celebrating our 20th anniversary by giving new talent their chance to perform at Friday After 5 on the beautiful Overlook Stage. Our friends at Cromwell Radio have helped us to assemble a cast of great new, up and coming performers of all ages to star each Friday all season long on the Cromwell Overlook Stage at the foot of Frederica Street on the riverfront. Tonight’s theme is “Young Professionals Night” and we have a lot of fun planned for everyone tonight thanks to our sponsor Kroger! Then you’ll find yourself overlooking the beautiful Ohio River from three stories up. Don’t worry, you can use any one of the four fun slides to slide back down to the fun on the ground! Be sure to have your 12 or under kid register to win one of two kid’s bikes Walmart is giving away tonight. Just register. They pull out two names each week and the kids get to go to Walmart and pick out a bike! Tonight’s special “Storybook Character” is one of the 101 Dalmatians you’ve seen in movies and read about in books. Each week the DC Public Library brings a storybook character, live and in person, to Friday After 5 courtesy of TD’s Tuff Decisions Costumes. Bring your camera phone! You’ll find yourself browsing past artists and their works on the riverfront. Welborn’s Kid’s Hula-Hoop contest starts at 7:45 followed by the Kroger Water Balloon toss. The winner gets a Kroger gift card. The losers get a towel. It’s all in fun and everyone then turns to the west for our traditional Friday After 5 “Toast to the Sunset”. It’s all free thanks to one of Owensboro’s best friends, Kroger!
Tonight, the All-America City of Owensboro hosts the special Moonlight Bike Ride. The ride begins at 10pm but the fun starts at 9:30pm at McConnell Plaza near the “Cromwell New Sound Overlook”! Join the Friday After 5 fun tonight then jump on your bike for a fun cycle trip under a summer moon! If you enjoy a casual ride on the weekends, during the warm months, or if you’re an avid biker who thinks a 30-mile ride is just a warm-up, the Moonlight Ride is the place for YOU this summer. Now in its second year, the Moonlight Ride, presented by the City of Owensboro is a party, a fun nighttime bike ride, and a great fund-raiser for the kids and families at St. Jude. The night will kick-off with a Pre-Ride Party at McConnell Plaza downtown (next to the Owensboro Convention Center) from 8:00pm – 9:30pm. This party will feature fun music, food trucks, dancing, contests for the best rider costume and best decorated bike. It will also be the place for on-site packet pick-up to get all your event swag. Our sponsors, Legends and Breck’s, will have bike tune-ups, demo bikes, and the latest biking accessories to showcase. Then at 9:30pm, riders will take off with police escort around the entire city on a 12.5 mile casual ride under the full moon, and starlit skies of Western Kentucky.
