It’s our 19th consecutive season of free fun set to music! Our All-America City of Owensboro kicks off Friday After 5 with Caribou on the BB&T plaza. Their playlist includes all the Top 40 hits from the Grass Roots and Chicago to Stevie Wonder and KC & the Sunshine Band. From Motown to Van Morrison, Caribou’s set list pulses with the most popular tunes from the sixties through the eighties. From rock to rhythm and blues, Caribou’s repertoire is sure to hold songs that you’ve loved for ages. Bring your dancing shoes! It’s our biggest season ever! Fun. Free. Friends. It’s Where the Weekend Begins. 6:30pm-10:00pm.
Tonight: Shawn Brashear! Born in Columbus, Mississippi in 1981, Shawn lived most of his youth a few miles down the road in Meridian. There he gained a strong understanding of blues music. While singing in the Meridian youth choir he developed a impressive vocal range. At age 11 he got his first guitar and began lessons with jazz guitarist Steve Watson. After 4 years of guitar lessons Shawn began performing for friends and family, singing his favorite classic rock songs. At age 16 he moved to Owensboro, Kentucky and began writing his own music. In his early 20’s Shawn won two big song writing contests. He received some free recording time at Sunlite Music in Owensboro and recorded to albums ( La La and Apt. B7). His writing continued to blossom and in 2009 he recorded a conceptual album call The Tambourine lion. Though unsigned he continues to build his fan base. His latest EP, “Mission”, shows his undying drive to make good music. Tonight, he’ll help wrap up our 2015 season of Courtyard Entertainment. More than twenty years ago, Atmos Energy gifted the courtyard to the RiverPark Center. As if that wasn’t enough, they came back several years ago, gave this special venue a complete make-over including overhead lights, two flaming, gas-powered torches and new landscaping. This year, they sponsored all of the acoustic artists performing in the Atmos Courtyard all season. Thank you Atmos and all of the entertainers that set our summer to music this season at Friday After 5. Tonight’s show: 7:00pm-10:00pm
Tonight “Atlas Road Crew” from Columbia, SC kicks off our 2015 season! Vintage Rock magazine says: “It seems this band arrived from another decade as their old school sound oozes vintage 70s rock with a blend of Stones meets the Black Keys. Currently selling out 400-seat venues in their hometown where they enjoy a cult following and already a regular on the fraternity circuit, ARC is the next breakout artist from the Southeast.” Members: Taylor Nicholson- Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar Dave Beddingfield- Lead Guitar Max Becker- Bass Guitar Patrick Drohan- Drums Bryce James- Keyboards/ Vocals. Don Moore Automotive team is our Party Pier sponsor all season. Fun. Free. Friends. It’s Where the Weekend Begins! 7:30pm-11:00pm.
Tonight’s theme: “Non-Profit Block Party”. All of our community’s top non-profit organizations will have booths! Kroger is flying in “The Hulk” from Cartoonland to be our special guest for the kids. Plus fun in the round with the Welborn’s kids’ Hula-Hoop contest followed by the Kroger Water Balloon toss at 7:50. Yes, people get wet. Usually it’s just the participants. Then we’ll “Toast the Sunset” in time for Caribou’s 2nd set. Your feet will appreciate the break but get ready to dance until 10pm. Also tonight, there’s the sixteen acre resort quality “Lazy Dayz” park in Smother’s Park! You’ll find a spray park and trees that you can climb up from the inside! It’s part of Owensboro’s award-wining riverfront. Your only problem will be trying to get the kids to leave this amusement park atmosphere. The good news? Just like Friday After 5, everything including the spraypark and playground is free! It’s all free thanks to Kroger!
