Bring your dancing shoes! It’s our biggest season ever! Fun. Free. Friends. It’s Where the Weekend Begins. 6:30pm-10:00pm.
Tonight: An Owensboro native, Andy Brasher opens our 20th Anniversary season! He moved to Nashville and started writing songs with a mutual friend. Andy brings to the collaboration a love for soul music and southern rock. His first album, The Brasher/Bogue Project (released in 2009), was initially meant to be a vehicle for getting their songs to publishers. The fan bases of both Brasher and Bogue joined forces behind the duo and new fans were gravitating toward the music on this CD. The demand to perform live was there. He’s played as part of Kenny Chesney’s Going Coastal Tour pre-show parties and toured through Seattle, Denver, Minneapolis, Detroit, Chicago, Green Bay, DC, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and even Nausau, Bahamas for Kenny Chesney’s Winter Beach Jam. More than twenty years ago, Atmos Energy gifted the courtyard to the RiverPark Center. As if that wasn’t enough, they came back several years ago, gave this special venue a complete make-over including overhead lights, two flaming, gas-powered torches and new landscaping. This year, they sponsored all of the acoustic artists performing in the Atmos Courtyard all season. Thank you Atmos Energy and all of the entertainers set our summer to music this season at Friday After 5. Tonight’s show: 7:00pm-10:00pm
Tonight “Maradeen“, an American rock band based out of Nashville, Tennessee. Founded by guitarist, Whit Murray, in the summer of 2014 with keyboardist, Kaitlyn Connor, and bassist, Sterling Miller, the band formed their initial roots as a high energy rock n roll quartet. With classical and jazz improvisation backgrounds they forged and evolved a unique and well-versed sound. In 2015 Tom Galloway moved to Nashville for songwriting and began collaborations with Murray. The band entered the analog studio “Welcome to 1979” in the spring of 2015 and recorded their first full-length LP entitled, “Mirage”. The album features the initial hard-hitting rockers from the band’s formative stage while revealing the new songwriting dynamic between Murray and Galloway. Don Moore Automotive team is our Party Pier sponsor all season. Fun. Free. Friends. It’s Where the Weekend Begins! 8:00pm-11:00pm.
Tonight’s theme: “Non-Profit Block Party”. All of our community’s top non-profit organizations will have booths! TDs Tuff Decisions and the Daviess County Public Library will be presenting live “Storybook Characters” every week at Friday After 5! It’s our way of encouraging our youngsters to continue fun reading during the summer. Tonight’s special “Storybook Character” is Dora the Explorer and Diego! They will be a big hit for the kids. Be sure to have your 12 or under kid register to win one of two kid’s bikes Walmart is giving away tonight. Just register. They pull out two names each week and the kids get to go to Walmart and pick out a bike!
It’s a special celebration tonight because you will be the first to experience the brand new Exploration Station Bus at Friday After 5! Foundation for DCPS and community partner, SFG, are sponsoring a Book Drive through Exploration Station tonight. Bring all those books (Pre-school to 18) collecting dust in your house to Exploration Station. We will distribute books throughout the summer to children in need when Exploration Station visits neighborhoods around the community. We’re proud to host the Exploration Station World Premiere tonight!
Plus fun in the round with the Welborn’s kids’ Hula-Hoop contest followed by the Kroger Water Balloon toss at 7:50. Yes, people get wet. Usually it’s just the participants. Then we’ll “Toast the Sunset” in time for Pink Cadillac’s 2nd set. Your feet will appreciate the break but get ready to dance until 10pm. Also tonight, there’s the sixteen acre resort quality “Lazy Dayz” park in Smother’s Park! You’ll find a spray park and trees that you can climb up from the inside! It’s part of Owensboro’s award-wining riverfront. Your only problem will be trying to get the kids to leave this amusement park atmosphere. The good news? Just like Friday After 5, everything including the spraypark and playground is free! It’s all free thanks to Kroger!
