Champion Ford takes us in the time machine back to the 70’s rock of Van Halen, Kiss, KC & the Sunshine Band and Journey and brings “Midnight Special: Classic Rock Experience” to the Jagoe Homes patio stage! Almost five decades after Bruce Brubaker last pitched in a major league baseball game it is not uncommon for the morning mail at Champion Ford Lincoln Mazda to include a request of two for Brubaker to sign one of his Topps baseball cards for a collector or fan. Bruce, his family and the home team at Champion Ford hit a home run with tonight’s band. Voted “Best Tribute Band” in the Cincy Vibe Magazine readers’ poll, “Midnight Special: Classic Rock Experience” sets the summer night to the music we all grew up with, set to a dance beat that will rock the patio. The five music industry veterans have shared the stage with such artists as Kansas, Eddie Money and Confederate Railroad, and have even done a stint as Tommy Tutone’s band! So not only can they deliver note-perfect renditions of everybody’s favorite songs, they also know how to serve it up with a fun-loving party attitude! Big Hits. Big Hair. Big Night! Grab your jean jacket and join the party! Thank you Champion Ford-Lincoln Mercury! 6:30pm-10:00pm
Born with an exceptional ear for melody and tone and a talent for creativity, tonight’s acoustic star, Greg Scott, was naturally drawn to music at a young age. After picking up a trumpet at age 10 and his destiny was set after being introduced to rock and roll drumming by a favorite uncle at 11. Now, after 30 years of living, writing and gigging (with brief interludes of attempting a “normal” life), he has become a modern minstrel. An accomplished guitarist with a distinctive, gritty and soulful vocal style, his catalogue is diverse, eclectic and entertaining. After hearing his range of covers from artists such as Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Tom Petty and Tool, as well as a number of blues-driven Americana rooted original songs, one would be hard-pressed to pigeonhole Gregory into a particular genre or style. Twenty years ago Atmos Energy gifted the Courtyard to the RiverPark Center. Just several years ago Atmos again upped their game by upgrading the Courtyard with two flaming gas torches, overhead decorative lighting and all new landscaping. They also sponsor the entire season of acoustic artists tonight through September 2nd at Friday After 5. Thank you Atmos Energy for sponsoring a summer of great music in the courtyard. 7:00-10:00pm.
Tonight we’re hosting the Corvette Cruise in! We’re expecting four blocks of Corvettes from all over the country tonight at Friday After 5. Bring your kid and your camera! The kids get to compete in their own Hula-Hoop contest at 7:45 and the winner gets a big kids prize basket from Welborn’s. Then it’s the grown-ups turn with our always fun and usually wet Kroger Water Balloon Toss. Winning couple gets a Kroger Gift Card and a towel. Friends. Food. Fun. You’ll find yourself browsing past Corvette’s, artists and their works on the riverfront. The magic continues throughout the iconic Smothers Park with a cartoon-like resort-quality playground for the kids! Smothers Park’s spray ground and signature fountain add to the magic. The “Toast to the Sunset” is at dusk then the nightlife swings into high gear. Be sure to have your 12 or under kid register to win one of two kid’s bikes Walmart is giving away tonight. Thank you Kroger for bringing the street fair to life every week all summer long! sponsoring the Street Fair all season long.
“Osiella” is in charge of the putting on the party tonight on the “Party Pier!” Tonight, we invite you to the labyrinth called Osiella. Theophilus Akai is the guy behind the driving guitar. A West African native, his cultural background encompasses a worldly sensation of “…chilled-out chord progressions and smooth guitar licks that never fail to enthrall and entertain” (The Edge Radio). Cynthia Murray as vocalist and songwriter delivers the rich soul that connects Osiella. One of the songs, “Island Love”, explores the notion of destroying all inhibitions in the name of love and allowing the other party to have their way with you. “Just do what you do!”, the carefully placed hook, presents Cynthia’s “…uncanny ability to write and perform an amazing vocal hook”. Osiella is back for tonight’s party downtown! One of the many amenities of the downtown renovation is the giant “Party Pier” outside the new Owensboro Convention Center. It’s a perfect venue for enjoying live entertainment with a breathtaking backdrop. The stage area overlooks both the Ohio River and is near the new waterfall feature and the Signature Fountain, designed by the same people who created the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas. Don Moore Automotive team sponsors the entire season where we throw a party every Saturday all summer long! And, just like Friday After 5, it’s fun and free. 8:00pm-11:30pm
