Canteen is “At Your Service” tonight as they rock the Labor Day Weekend dance party with the “Naked Karate Girls” on the Jagoe Homes riverfront patio stage. No they are not naked. They have nothing to do with Karate. They aren’t even girls. They are professional party makers! Afraid to dance? Fuggedaboudit. NKG will make you shake like a love machine with funny choreography, props and outfits that encourage everyone in the audience to participate with them. The Naked Karate Girls bring everything but the cowbell entertaining audiences throughout the Midwest and rocked Friday After 5 last season. It’s a world-class show and their parole officers finally gave them permission to close out our season at Friday After 5! As we wrap up our season, we’re kicking off the year long celebration of the RiverPark Center’s 25th anniversary! Big party tonight. Thank you Canteen. Across the country, thousands of talented and passionate Canteen associates work together with the determination to make everyone and everything count and we are proud to have their corporate offices right here in Owensboro. It’s our season finale! Don’t miss it. Friday After 5 is Where the Labor Day Weekend Begins! Thank you Canteen! 6:30pm-until the police come.
Tonight’s Theme: “East Bridge Arts Festival “! Just as we close our our season, we supply the backdrop for the kick-off of the “East Bridge Arts Festival”. Sisters Katherine Taylor and Christy Taylor Chaney majored in art in college and wanted to open a gallery after graduation. They added the boutique part to the gallery and named their art haven Studio Slant. At Studio Slant there is an art gallery but also a handmade boutique full of fun gifts made by artists with love. Their love for all things handmade grew into something they had dreamed about for years. With Studio Slant spreading the good word of handmade they wanted to see if an art festival would work in Owensboro. Tonight, they’re kicking off their seventh year. Our fun for the season ends tonight but the East Bridge Arts Fest continues through the weekend! Enjoy the award-winning Smother’s Park Riverfront with a special “spray ground” and Lazy Dayz play area, beautiful waterfalls and the Big O Signature Fountain. Be sure to have your 12 or under kid register to win one of two kid’s bikes Wal-Mart is giving away tonight. Just register. They pull out two names each week and the kids get to go to Wal-Mart and pick out a bike! We’ve invited characters from the “Justice League” to join us tonight courtesy of TD’s Tuff Decisions costumes. Plus we’ll invite some lucky couples to compete in our Kroger Water Balloon Toss. Winning couple gets a Kroger Gift Card and a towel. The Welborn’s kids’ Hula-Hoop Contest is during the band’s break, too. Friends. Food. Fun. Free. You’ll find yourself browsing past artists and their works on the Riverfront. We’ll “Toast the Sunset” as it silhouettes the beautiful Owensboro Riverfront. Thank you Kroger for sponsoring our street fair all season long!
You’re in for quite a party tonight to kick off the three-day weekend! Electronic reggae-dub innovators, “Jon Wayne and The Pain” have been mesmerizing fans for nearly a decade, with their signature JWP cosmic-blend of electronic beats, fused with upbeat roots-reggae music and a psychedelic funk. The Twin Cities based ensemble burst onto the scene in 2007, following their debut self-titled album. Since then, they have been building a dedicated Midwest loyal-fan following through extensive touring, influential songwriting and multi-dimensional jamming. Grass skits are optional but comfortable dancing shoes are a must! Tonight’s band is staying over courtesy of our newest downtown hotel, Holiday Inn Riverfront, home of “Bourbon Grill”. A great show without wristbands because Friday After 5, is free. Thanks to Don Moore Automotive. 8pm-11:30pm
