Big Red and WKU-Owensboro sponsor one of the summer’s best bands, Caribou on the main stage. Their playlist includes all the Top 40 hits from the Grass Roots and Chicago to Stevie Wonder and KC & the Sunshine Band. From Motown to Van Morrison, Caribou’s set list pulses with the most popular tunes from the sixties through the eighties. From rock to rhythm and blues, Caribou’s repertoire is sure to hold songs that you’ve loved for ages, and will keep you dancing all night. Earn your PhD in fun tonight thanks to the Western Kentucky University-Owensboro campus. Horns, hits, happy!
Josh Merritt Band performs in the newly renovated RiverPark Center Courtyard. Josh and the band provides a high energy show based around the idea of playing all genres of music . After forming in 2013, the band has geared up and is making a name throughout the musical community with their appearance at Friday After 5 in the courtyard. Gifted to the RPC in 1992 by Atmos Energy, the courtyard provides a cozy venue that’s as fun as it is intimate. A summer night under the stars set to music awaits you tonight. Thank you UniFirst Corporation for sponsoring a summer of great music in the courtyard.
“Fat Box” performs tonight from 7pm to 10pm on the new stage! Fat Box’s mission is to explore the musical unknown, pressing beyond the expected and accepted in rhythm and harmony. Determined to invalidate the word ‘genre,’ they aspire to an exceedingly wide dynamic range and vast tonal palette. We venture into the avant-garde while never losing sight of the groove. But, don’t fret. They maintain a copious level of rockitude and won’t get too weird before bringing you back to familiar territory. You’re gonna love them! One of the many amenities of the Smothers Park renovation is the giant overlook stage at the foot of Frederica. It’s about 2/3 the size of the RiverPark Center patio and overlooks both the Ohio River, the new waterfall feature and the Signature Fountain, designed by the same people who created the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas. Don Moore Automotive team is our sponsor all season where we feature Owensboro’s newest talent!
Tonight’s theme: “Father’s Day Weekend”! We’ve “engineered” a special night with the “Independence Bank Kid’s Train” that will transport everyone up and down Veteran’s Boulevard tonight from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. Our special guest flying in from Cartoon Land will be everyone’s favorite SpongePerson! Plus fun in the round with the Welborn’s kids’ Hula-Hoop contest followed by the Kroger Water Balloon toss at 7:50. Yes, people get wet. Usually it’s just the participants. Then we’ll “Toast the Sunset” in time for Caribou’s 2nd set. Your feet will appreciate the break but get ready to dance until 10pm. Ms Teen and Ms Daviess County will be near the three “Muscle Cars” on display and Next Level will have a special pitching machine set up to let you (and the kids) see how fast Dad’s ”fast ball” really is! Studio Slant will have home-made Father’s Day cards available and will provide free face painting for all kids! Plus, there’s the sixteen acre resort quality “Lazy Dayz” park in Smother’s Park! You’ll find a spray park and trees that you can climb up from the inside! It’s part of Owensboro’s award-wining riverfront. Your only problem will be trying to get the kids to leave this amusement park atmosphere. The good news? Just like Friday After 5, everything including the spraypark and playground is free! It’s all free thanks to Kroger!
